About Us
States Advancing Solar is an initiative by Clean Energy Group with funding from the Department of Energy’s Solar America Initiative: State Solar Technical Outreach Partnership Project and the Clean Energy States Alliance.
The objectives of this project are to:
-
provide information and technical assistance to state policymakers and state renewable energy programs in the development of effective solar programs;
-
identify and foster best practices for design and implementation of state solar programs;
-
identify and promote strategic opportunities for states, DOE, and other major stakeholders to advance solar technology deployment through partnerships, collaboration and joint activities.
A major project focus will be to identify, evaluate and facilitate state adoption of effective financial, policy and technology strategies to accelerate solar technology markets across the country. The Council of State Governments is partnering with Clean Energy Group on this national outreach effort.
Clean Energy Group (CEG) is a leading nonprofit advocacy organization, working in the U.S. and internationally on innovative technology, finance and policy programs in the areas of clean energy and climate change. CEG works directly with government officials, nonprofit practitioners, public clean energy fund managers, private investors and academics to use its unique financial and policy expertise to develop effective and transferable models for creating new low carbon policies and mobilizing new sources of capital in the clean energy sector. In 2002, CEG created, and now manages, a new alliance of U.S.-based, public clean energy funds - the Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA). The 18 states comprising this coalition manage clean energy funds that will invest nearly $4 billion in the next ten years to support clean energy technology markets.
Founded in 1998, CEG is headquartered in Montpelier, Vermont, with satellite offices in Denver, CO and Washington, DC. CEG has a staff of nine and works with consultants in the U.S. and internationally.
Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA) is providing additional support to this initiative. CESA is a nonprofit coalition of state clean energy funds and programs working together to develop and promote clean energy technologies and markets. CESA provides information sharing, technical assistance services, and a collaborative network for its members by coordinating multi-state efforts, leveraging funding for projects and research, and assisting members with program development and evaluation. CESA is managed by Clean Energy Group. For more information, please visit the CESA website at www.cleanenergystates.org.
Council of State Governments (CSG) is working with CEG on this project as a consultant. CSG is the premier multi-branch state government organization. Through education, research and information services, CSG will provide CEG with an effective forum for outreach and communication with state legislators and executive branch officials on solar issues and policies in all fifty states. For more information about CSG, please see www.csg.org.
